From December 2014, Vietnam Airlines tightens check-in deadline for all domestic
and international flights. Accordingly, the minimum required check-in time is 40
minutes, instead of 30 minutes as before. In regard to international flights,
the closing time is 50 minutes ahead of departure. All boarding gates are
currently shuttered 10 minutes prior to departure time.
Passengers are advised to present at the airport 120 minutes before estimated
departure for internal flights. Regarding international trips, 180 minutes is a
reasonable time to present for check-in procedures.
Noticeably, the check-in counters of Vietnam Airlines at certain international
airports are close 60 minutes before estimated departure; i.e., Charles de
Gaulle (Paris, France); London Gatwick (London, UK); Frankfurt (Frankfurt,
Germany).
This change aims to help the carrier have more time for arranging seats and
luggage. Additionally, this will reduce flight schedule change or cancellation
in the case of overloading. As a matter of fact, the check-in time adjustment is
stipulated according to Circular 36/12/2014/TT of Ministry of Transportation,
applied for all carriers in Vietnam and Vietnam Airlines is the first to
announce the changes.
